On Friday, August 22, 12-year-old Michael Santos of Wood Ridge, NJ was the lucky recipient of SNY’s Dream Day, part of the network’s year-round Play Ball Campaign offering a roster of opportunities to local youth leagues in the tri-state area including grants, clinics, equipment donations, volunteer initiatives, and a dream day experience making a deserving child’s big league dream a reality.
Michael suffers from sickle-cell disease, a hereditary blood disorder that results in a risk of various life-threatening complications. As a part of his treatment, he has been required to visit Hackensack University Medical Center each month since birth for transfusion therapy to help manage his affliction.
Upon hearing his story SNY, in partnership with the New York Jets and Tomorrows Children’s Fund, decided to make his dream come true by inviting him to Friday evening’s Jets-Giants game at MetLife where he was taken on the field during pre-game warm-ups, present on the sideline for player introductions, and in the locker room with his favorite Jet players following the game.
SNY is the official television home of the New York Mets, Jets and all things New York sports. As New York’s leader in local sports TV coverage, SNY delivers the most comprehensive access to all of the Tri-State area’s professional and collegiate sports teams through five nightly sports and entertainment programs – broadcast in state-of-the-art HD – from SNY’s street-level studio in the heart of Manhattan.
Tomorrows Children’s Fund directly assists families of children with cancer and life-threatening blood diseases. The financial and emotional burden these devastating diseases place on families can be overwhelming. TCF provides a warm, healthy and loving environment for children in treatment and a full scope of services to relieve families’ financial and psychological stress. www.tcfkid.org
