When the Hackensack High School Comet Marching Band participates in the National Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C. on July 4, 2014, they will be traveling in style. The plain silver trailer previously used by the band has been upgraded with customized decorative wrapping, which was gifted to the band by the Chit Chat Diner in Hackensack and an anonymous donor.

The Comet Marching Band is the only band in the state that has been selected to appear in the July 4 parade, but in order to participate in the four-day, three-night trip, additional community and corporate support is needed. Lisa MacVicar, the band’s director, said that each musician will have to collect more than $600 to attend the trip.

“Our goal is to raise $60,000,” said Tracey Melfi, president of the newly formed Band/Parent Organization.
