Today the Boys & Girls Club of Lodi/Hackensack and the Boys & Girls Club of Garfield hosted the annual Summer Olympic Games. While this was the 12th annual event for the Lodi/Hackensack club, it was the first including Garfield.

The event kicked off early this morning with a torch run led by Hackensack’s Zion Frazer, 12, who, along with a group of other children, traveled from Summit Avenue at the Carvel Mall in Hackensack to Harrison Avenue in Garfield. Local, county and state officials were on hand to cheer on the runners, who were guided along the route by police officers and sheriff’s officers.

The ceremony concluded with a barbecue at the Boys & Girls Club of Lodi, complete with a bounce house, dunk tank, games and more. Sponsors for the event included Applebee’s, PSE&G, Clear Channel Outdoor Media, TD Bank, Inserra Supermarkets, Comfort Guard Contracting and the Community Bank of Bergen County.
