The Hackensack High School Academic Decathlon team, led by Coach John Spadafino, recently attended a regional competition hosted by Ramapo High School. Teams representing 16 high schools battled in the following subject areas: speech, interview, essay, math, science, social science, language and literature, economics, art, music and a super quiz focused on the Age of Empire. Hackensack placed third and secured a spot in the prestigious state competition at Morris Knolls High School.
Hackensack earned a total of 30 regional awards.
Honors Level – Domenico Panuccio (Honorable Mention- Language and Literature); Idelsa Sanchez (Honorable Mention- Mathematics); David Tran (Gold-Economics and Bronze – Mathematics); William Yang (Gold – Science); and Myrna Yehia (Bronze – Science).
Scholastic Level – Amin Khan (Honorable Mentions – Math and Interview); Steven Lopez (Silver – Social Science, Bronze – Essay, Language and Literature, Honorable Mention – Interview); Lydia Ramache (Bronze- Economics and Speech, Honorable Mentions – Social Science, Language and Literature); Linnea Robinson (Bronze – Music and Language and Literature); and Na Woon Yoon (Gold – Art).
Varsity Level – Geneva Khan (Silver – Social Science and Interview and Honorable Mention – Essay); Jaime Rodriguez-Aviles (Silver – Speech, Bronze – Essay, Honorable Mention – Art); Brian Stith (Bronze – Economics, Language and Literature, Honorable Mentions – Science and Art).
Principal James Montesano was impressed with the team’s performance.
