On Saturday, April 19, members of the International Association of Fire Fighters Locals 2081 and 3172 of Hackensack hit the city streets as part of the 2014 Muscular Dystrophy Association Fill the Boot Drive. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the labor unions’ partnership with the MDA.
With a total of 25 firemen collecting donations at various intersections, the group raised more than $4,000 for muscular dystrophy research, medicine, therapy and summer camp. A special guest was Kaitlin Spreen, a local MDA representative and a summer camp attendee. Kaitlin told Firefighter Tim Rice, the force’s MDA coordinator, that she was so excited for this year’s camp that she has created a countdown clock on her cell phone. The firefighters will be out with their boots again over Labor Day weekend, hoping to reach their goal of $10,000.
