On Oct. 26, 1,100 guests gathered at The Plaza in Manhattan for the Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation’s annual Recognition Gala, which celebrated the 125th anniversary of the medical center. The event was the largest ever held at The Plaza by a nonprofit organization. This year’s event raised nearly $2.3 million to benefit the many programs and initiatives provided by HackensackUMC.
“I want to extend my gratitude to the many sponsors and guests who contributed so generously to the success of this evening,” said Robert C. Garrett, president and chief executive officer of Hackensack University Health Network. “Proceeds from this event directly contribute to the well-being of our patients and the continued success of our medical center as we mark our 125th anniversary.”
“Congratulations to the entire HackensackUMC Foundation team for orchestrating a stellar evening,” said Ulises Diaz, chairman, HackensackUMC Foundation Board of Trustees. “Our foundation staff works throughout the year to support and enhance the patient care, programs and facilities at HackensackUMC. We are so pleased that the annual gala was such a success.”
Guests were treated to a special performance by Neil Sedaka in the standing-room-only Terrace Room. Entertainment continued throughout the evening with a jazz ensemble in the Centennial Foyer, a salsa band in the main ballroom and various New York City artists adding to the excitement with a vibrant rhythm troupe and percussion show comprised of tappers, dancers and cirque performers.
A 50/50 raffle yielded 1,426 tickets sold and generated $142,600. Half of the funds raised will directly contribute to the many programs and initiatives at HackensackUMC. The winner, Brenda Moen, of Fair Lawn, received a check for the other half, totaling $71,300.
