HackensackUMC Hosts CarFit Training for Seniors in Partnership with AAA, Teaneck and Woodcliff Lake Police Departments

car-fitHackensack, NJ – September 20, 2016 – Hackensack University Medical Center’s Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Injury Prevention Section, Health Awareness Regional Program (HARP), AAA, Teaneck Police Department and Woodcliff Lake Police Department partnered together to host Woodcliff Lake’s first CarFit Program for senior citizens earlier this month.

“We were able to better ‘fit’ our senior drivers for maximum comfort and safety in their vehicles.  All it takes is a 20-minute assessment to enhance their safety as drivers,” said Meliam Gonzales, injury prevention coordinator, HackensackUMC.

CarFit is an educational program that offers older adults the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles “fit” them.  The CarFit program also provides information and materials on community-specific resources that could improve their safety as drivers, and/or increase their mobility in the community.
