“The requirements were vigorous and the competition was great,” said Superintendent Dennis McDonald. “We have so many outstanding staff members who obviously could meet the standard without question.”

As a representative of the district and the county, eligible candidates had to meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the most current education topics and teaching and learning strategies
  • Be skilled practitioners who have impacted student achievement at the school or district level
  • Must consistently demonstrate the ability to inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and attributes
  •  Have strong long-range potential for leadership opportunities beyond the district level

The final selection proved to be an extremely difficult task on the part of the district committee, McDonald explained. “Her motivation, dedication and love for the teaching profession are apparent in every way,” McDonald said of Hernando. “This is another proud moment for Rochelle Park.”
