The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hackensack Police Department are looking for information relative to a hit and run collision during which a pedestrian was struck and seriously injured in Hackensack, New Jersey.
On Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at approximately 9:15 p.m., the Hackensack Police Department received a 911 emergency call reporting that a person had been struck by a car and was lying in the middle of the roadway on First Street. Upon responding to the scene, officers observed a man lying in the northbound lane of First Street, between its intersections with
Clay Street and Berdan Place. The victim, who was identified as Grady Fort, a 59 year old Little Ferry man, had suffered injuries consistent with having been struck by a motor vehicle and was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center.
As a result of an investigation conducted by members of Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit (FAIU) and the Hackensack Police Department, it was determined that at approximately 9:15 p.m., the victim was struck by a motor vehicle as he crossed First Street. The vehicle involved was driving north on First Street at the time of the collision. The vehicle continued north and fled the scene. As a result of an initial examination of evidence located at the scene, investigators believe that the vehicle involved in the collision was a compact red car or SUV, possibly a Toyota Rav4. The vehicle involved suffered damage to the area surrounding the headlight on the passenger’s side.
