Lavish Lunches at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades Thursday, March 2, Breakfast, 10:15 am | Lunch, 12:15 pm Special guest speaker: Josh Capon, Seasoned Executive Chef

Spike TV - FRANKENFOOD - Josh Capon and Tony Luke JrLavish Lunches, an annual culinary experience that supports a broad range of JCC programs and services for senior adults in our community, will take place on Thursday, March 2, at 10:15 am. Funds raised at this event allow seniors to “age in place” and remain socially, mentally and physically connected to the world around them.

The morning will begin with a light breakfast at the home of Alissa and Zachary Epstein of Tenafly and will feature a culinary presentation by seasoned executive chef Josh Capon. After graduating culinary school, Capon was discovered by legendary chef Charlie Palmer, worked as an extern at Palmer’s famous upscale restaurant, Aureole, and later assisted him in opening The Lenox Room. He went on to work for David Burke at the Park Avenue Café and then spent a year in Europe fine-tuning his culinary skills. On his return, Capon became sous chef at The St. Regis Hotel’s Astor Court, reconnected with Charlie Palmer, and became Executive Chef of Alva, Palmer’s American bistro. He later took the reigns as Executive Chef of Lure Fishbar, a sophisticated seafood and sushi restaurant, then partnered with the owners to launch the B&B Winepub in SoHo, El Toro Blanco in the West Village, a successful Miami version of Fishbar in the historic St. Moritz hotel and the Bowery Meat Company, an ode to all-things meat in the East Village. Capon is a 6-time winner of the People’s Choice award at the NYC Wine & Food Festival’s Burger Bash, has appeared on Rachael Ray, Live with Regis and Kelly, CBS Early Show, TODAY, and Food Network, and has been featured in The New York Times, New York Magazine and Time Out New York.

Following his presentation, participants will attend their choice of lunch, served in local homes and venues, where hosts and hostesses will provide a memorable dining experience, each with a unique theme.

Proceeds will support the JCC mission to provide seniors in our community with a wide range of programs and services, including a social adult day care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia; extensive programming for active retirees; door-to-door transportation in wheelchair accessible vehicles; hearty breakfasts and hot kosher lunches; programs for the arts; lectures and concerts; discussions on current affairs; exercise; sing-alongs and dancing; birthday and holiday celebrations; intergenerational programs with nursery school children and more.

The event has been planned in detail with co-chairs Lorin Cook & Brandi Rubin, a dedicated committee that includes Special Events Chair Marci Ginzburg and the following generous event sponsors: Artistic Tile, Gilly’s Organics, Goldstein Jewelers, M. Ross & Associates, LLC, MYRON, Orly Chen, SeeSaw, Shop Rite and Treeco, The Real Estate Equity Company.
