Legion Hosts Baseball Competition

The Bergen County American Legion sponsored the MLB Pitch, Hit and Run competition at Matthews Field in Rochelle Park on April 14 where a total of 45 boys and 11 girls from Bergen and Passaic Counties competed.

In the girls’ 9- and 10-year-old bracket, Jackie Gunderman of Rochelle Park won the overall competition as well as pitching.  Amanda Turk of Saddle Brook won the running competition, and Theresa Pattermann of Rochelle Park won the hitting competition.  In the 11- and 12-year-old bracket, Kristen Kero of Rochelle Park won the overall and the hitting competition. Isabella Maldonado won the running, and Gabe Bulger won the pitching contest.  In the 13- and 14-year-old bracket, Maxibel Garcia from Passaic won all of the categories.

In the boys’ 7- and 8-year-old competition, Thomas Gehrig of Maywood won the overall and running. Michael Del of Rochelle Park won the hitting, and Andrew Cangialosi and Joseph Farrington, both of Rochelle Park, were tied in the pitching competition. In the 9 and 10 bracket, Michael Gillen of Rochelle Park won overall and hitting. Hunter Schanel of Rutherford won the pitching competition, and Nick Struble of Great Meadows won the running competition.  In the 11 and 12 bracket, Adam Becker of Rochelle Park won overall, hitting and running, while Christian Trapani, Randy Hernandez and Karl Pattermann, all of Rochelle Park, tied in the pitching competition. In the 13 and 14 bracket, Kirk Schmidt of Rochelle Park won all of the categories.

The winners will move on to the semi-final competition to be held on May 17 in Allendale.
