Mother, 36, Stabbed in Head

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, Maywood police received several 9-1-1 calls about a possible assault on West Passaic Street and Bergen Avenue. A 41-year-old Hackensack man allegedly stabbed a 36-year-old woman in the head while her three children sat in the backseat of the car, said Police Chief David Pegg.

The victim fled the car by foot and the suspect chased her down West Pleasant Avenue.

“The suspect appeared to be very disturbed,” Pegg said. “Officers from Maywood and Rochelle Park quickly apprehended him with little incident.”

The victim was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The children were unharmed and turned over to family members.

This is being considered a case of domestic violence so the identity of the suspect is being withheld. He has been charged with attempted murder, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon.
