Paramus police have arrested a 33-year-old borough man for allegedly eluding police while operating a motorcycle. On Sept. 22, Police Officer Daniel Derienzo spotted a beige 2009 Suzuki GSX motorcycle swerving as it traveled northbound on Pascack Road in the area of Oradell Avenue. When Derienzo attempted to stop the motorcycle, the driver, Ilkay Karayel, sped away north on Farview Avenue. Karayel then allegedly ran several red lights. At the intersection of Rochelle and Central avenues in Rochelle Park, Karayel lost control of the motorcycle and slid to the ground. Karayel was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, police said.
He was arrested and transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with non- life threatening injuries. He has been charged with eluding police with a motorcycle, operating a motor vehicle wile under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving with a suspended driver’s license and reckless driving.
In an unrelated incident on Aug. 14, Karayel was the victim of a shooting at the intersection of Pascack Road and Oradell Avenue by unknown attackers on a motorcycle. That case remains under investigation.
