At 10:29 p.m. on Aug. 14, Paramus police responded to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood on the report of a man who had been shot while walking along Pascack Road. The victim, identified as Ilkay Karayel, 33, of Paramus, had been walking in the area of Oradell Avenue sometime after 10 p.m. when a motorcycle being ridden by two men stopped next to him. One of the men dismounted the bike and started arguing with the victim. During the fight, the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired several times, hitting Karayel at least one time in the chest. The suspects fled south on Pascack Road on the motorcycle, police said.
The victim ran home and was driven to Valley Hospital by family members where he is listed in stable condition. Paramus detectives have located several spent handgun casings at the shooting scene.
