national-honor-paramusCongratulations to Paramus High School Seniors, Jamie Guo and Nari Yoon who have attained semi-finalist standing in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship competition.

The students are among 16,000 semifinalists nationally, representing less than the top one percent of U.S. high school seniors who tested into the program.

About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2017 Merit Program as juniors by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.

These academically talented students will have an opportunity to compete for one of 7,500 National Merit Scholarships, to be awarded next spring. The scholarships total more than $33 million in all.

To advance to the finalist level of the competition, the semifinalists must submit an application detailing their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment and honors received. Additionally, the semifinalists must also write an essay and be recommended by a high school official.
