At 9:41 p.m. on March 31, Paramus Police Officer Jon Umanzor stopped a white 2006 Chevy Impala on Route 4 West near Forest Avenue. The vehicle was missing a headlamp and had dark tinted windows. Umanzor approached the vehicle, which was being driven by Born Graham, 27, of Paterson, and immediately detected the scent of raw marijuana.
Umanzor requested the response of a K-9 unit from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and the dog made several positive indications near the vehicle. Graham refused to allow the officers to search the Impala so the car was secured temporarily while a search warrant was obtained. The next day, officers searched the vehicle and discovered a loaded 9mm Glock 17 handgun in the glove compartment. After a thorough search of the car, no marijuana was discovered. Graham turned himself in to the Paramus Police Department later in the day. He was charged with possession of a handgun and possession of large capacity handgun magazine.
