Seven new Class 1 special police officers have graduated from the training academy and are headed to the Paramus Police Department.

The part-time officers trained for more than three months in first aid, traffic and crowd control, and are certified by the New Jersey State Police Training Commission.

They will be assigned to the Paramus Traffic Division where they will assist with street crossings, sporting events, concerts, fireworks and other town functions. Special police officers also play a vital role in facilitating the heavy flow of traffic generated by holiday shopping in the borough. This frees up regular officers to handle crime and other emergencies. These officers also assist the force and Office of Emergency Management during hurricanes and other natural disasters. With these new hires, the Paramus Police Department now has a total of 17 part-time special officers.
