Police Capture Four Suspects in Paramus Home Invasion

Four suspects were arrested in Teaneck on Wednesday in connection to a Paramus home invasion and kidnapping.  On May 14, Paramus Police responded to a robbery call from a Mill Run home around 1 p.m.

The homeowner, 67, said the suspects knocked on his front door and rang the doorbell. He did not answer but looked out the window and saw  three males and one female, at the front door. Then, the suspects reportedly  smashed in the glass of a sliding back door. Upon hearing the noise, the homeowner went down to the first floor of the home where he was surprised by two of the male suspects. The suspects overpowered the victim, tying him up with a telephone cord. The suspects then ransacked several rooms and fled the scene in a red Dodge Caravan. The victim was able to untie himself and call police. He received minor injuries but was not transported to a hospital.

The Paramus Police Department immediately issued a description of the suspects and the getaway vehicle.  A short time later, Hackensack Police Sergeant Scott Sybel , Hackensack Detective Rocco Duardo and a detective from the Bergen County Prosecutors Office observed the wanted vehicle driving on Route 4 East near Hackensack Avenue. The police tried to stop the vehicle which was attempting to flee. The van then pulled onto Bell Ave. in Teaneck and the four suspects took off on foot. One suspect ran across all of the Route lanes to the north side of the highway, where he was apprehended by Hackensack Officer Nick Ortiz, with the assistance of a civilian bystander. The other three suspects were captured near the vehicle. The Hackensack Police Department, Teaneck Police Department, Bergen County Sheriff’s Department and  Bergen County Police assisted Paramus Police with the arrests.

The suspects were processed at the Paramus Police Department and the crime is still under active investigation.
