Paramus resident Mark Cristaldi, a student at Bergen Catholic High School and member of Boy Scout Troop 142 recently completed his leadership service project required to become an Eagle Scout. Over the last six months, Mark has been collecting art supplies to benefit Josephine’s Garden at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center.

Josephine’s Garden was created in honor of Josephine Rispoli, a 7-year old-who died from a brain tumor in 2011. Her father, Francis, is a graduate of Bergen Catholic High School Class of 1981 and the owner of Rispoli Pastry Shop in Emerson. All of the art supplies were collected from classmates, family, and friends as well as customers outside of Blick Art Materials of Paramus as well as local supermarkets and other retail shops. Mark collected were crayons, colored pencils, color paints and coloring books. All of the art supplies were sorted, packaged in draw-string bags and donated to the patients of the children’s oncology hospital on June 13. Drawing and coloring provides the young patients with a distraction from daily treatment, allowing them to use their creativity while healing.
