During the South Hackensack Board of Education meeting on Dec. 10, Chief School Administrator William DeFabiis notified the board that he would be retiring effective June 30, 2013. At the meeting, a resolution was passed and read aloud by Board President Patricia Nasta thanking DeFabiis for 23 years of service to the students of South Hackensack. The resolution also authorized the renaming of the Memorial School gymnasium in his honor. After the meeting, DeFabiis was escorted to the gym where the Education Association of South Hackensack (EASH) presented a banner naming the gym as the “Dr. William DeFabiis Gymnasium.” Many current and former teachers and board members, along with family and community members joined Memorial School Supervisor Connie Truncali in thanking DeFabiis for his years of unwavering dedication to the children of Memorial School. After the ceremony, the attendees shared cake and coffee, as well as their fond memories of DeFabiis’s long career as the educational leader of the school district.
