Teaneck ArrestsBergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced the arrests of KELISEN BREWLEY, 25 years of age and KAREEM A. GIBBS, 22 years of age, both of 547 Maple Avenue, Teaneck, New Jersey.  Both have been charged with three counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  Kelisen BREWLEY is additionally charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm, a 3rd degree crime.  In addition, a third suspect identified as KEITH BREWLEY, 27 years of age of Garfield, New Jersey, has been charged with one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, however he remains at large at this time.  The arrests came about as a result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor=s Office Special Victims Unit under the direction of Chief Carmen MARTINO and the Teaneck Police Department under the direction of Chief Robert CARNEY.

On Thursday August 21, 2014, a 15 year old juvenile female and her mother reported to law enforcement that she (the juvenile) had been forcibly raped earlier in the day by two males.  The alleged crime was determined to have occurred in Teaneck and a joint investigation was initiated.  The victim was interviewed by detectives from the Special Victims Unit and the Teaneck Police Department, at which time she provided a detailed account of what took place.

The victim detailed that an acquaintance of hers, later identified as Keith BREWLEY, drove her to 547 Maple Avenue, Teaneck, New Jersey purportedly to socialize. This is the residence of BREWLEY’s family.  The victim was unaware that two other males were at the residence.  Shortly after arriving at the residence, a male, unknown to her, (later identified as Kareem GIBBS) brought the juvenile into a bedroom where he was joined by a second male she did not know (later identified as Kelisen BREWLEY).  While holding the victim down, the two engaged her in sexual acts against her will.  Afterwards GIBBS and Kelisen BREWLEY left the residence.  The victim was eventually taken home by Keith BREWLEY at which time she reported the attack to her mother.

On Tuesday, August 26, 2014, a search warrant was executed at 547 Maple Avenue, Teaneck by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Teaneck Police.  Kareem GIBBS and Kelisen BREWLEY were located, interviewed and arrested.   A search of the residence yielded certain items of evidence, to include a .22 caliber handgun found in Kelisen BREWLEY’s bedroom.  The gun was determined to have been stolen out of Jacksonville, Florida earlier this year.

Kareem GIBBS was charged with three counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  Bail was set by the Honorable Edward A. Jerejian, J.S.C., at $500,000.00, no 10% option.  Kelisen BREWLEY was charged with three counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault, one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and one count of Possession of a Stolen Firearm.  His bail was set at $400,000.00 with no ten percent option.  Both were remanded to the Bergen County Jail for default of required bail.  Their first appearance is scheduled for September 8, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. in Teaneck Municipal Court.

As stated above, Keith BREWLEY remains at large. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact the Teaneck Police Department at 201-837-2600.

Prosecutor Molinelli states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would also like to thank the Teaneck Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
