Three additional men have been arrested in connection with the bar brawl that occurred outside the Twins Plus Lounge on South Main Street in South Hackensack on Jan. 27. During the incident, five people were injured, three critically. The case is being investigated by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the South Hackensack Police Department.
At 1:44 a.m. on Jan. 27, South Hackensack and surrounding towns’ police forces responded to a reported bar fight at Twins Plus Lounge. Police found a total of six people outside the bar, and five of the six were transported to area hospitals with injuries. The six men were identified as Ernest Brodie, 20, of Harrison; Jesus Colon, 21, of, Lyndhurst; Anthony Pate, 37, of Belleville; Benjamin Venegas, 27; Raphael Carrion Jr., 28; and Lukasz Dziewiatkowski, 32, all of Garfield.
The investigation has revealed that Brodie, Colon and Pate were together at the bar and the three Garfield men were also there as a group.
The two groups got into an argument inside the bar that spilled outside. During the altercation in the street, Carrion was bludgeoned in the head with a hammer and Pate was stabbed once in the torso. In addition, it is alleged that Brodie entered his vehicle, which was parked near the bar, and intentionally struck Dziewiatkowski on Saddle River Avenue. He then turned around, returned to South Main Street, accelerated and intentionally struck Venegas.
Dziewiatkowski sustained several broken bones and was treated and released from Hackensack University Medical Center. Venegas sustained severe head trauma and was released from the hospital three days later. Pate was treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and was released on Jan. 29. Carrion was initially at HUMC in critical condition and just recently released. Colon was treated and released from HUMC after being treated for lacerations to his face and leg.
The new charges involve Pate, who was hit with two counts of aggravated assault and weapons offenses. It is alleged that he attacked Carrion and Dziewiatkowski with a hammer. He is currently in the Bergen County Jail with bail set at $150,000, no 10 percent option. Venegas was charged with one count of aggravated assault and weapons offenses and was released after posting $75,000 bail. Carrion was charged with one count of aggravated assault and weapons offenses. It is alleged that he stabbed Pate. He is currently in the Bergen County Jail with bail set at $150,000, no 10 percent option.
Brodie, Colon and Dziewiatkowski were charged with a variety of offenses last week.
Additionally, the owners and several employees of Twins Plus Lounge were cited by South Hackensack police with 14 violations of borough ordinances and Alcoholic Beverage Control laws.
