At 4 p.m. on Oct. 13, Paramus police received a call alerting them of a possible burglary in progress at the Tool Town store located at N. 155 Route 17 southbound. Upon arrival at the scene, police determined that a suspect had pried open the front door and stolen portable generators valued at more than $5,000. Police interviewed a witness who was able to provide the license plate of a 1999 Dodge Van that was allegedly used by the suspect to flee the scene. This license plate was transmitted to all surrounding police departments in the Paramus area.
A short time later, Fort Lee Police Officers Laki Pothos and Jay Makroulakis spotted the vehicle driving on Route 4 eastbound in the area of Jones Road. The Fort Lee officers stopped the van and arrested the suspect, Jose Portalatin-Boigue, 52, of West New York, without incident. He was charged with burglary, theft and possession of burglary tools.
