World Autism Awareness Day
Each April 2, Autism Speaks celebrates Light It Up Blue along with the international autism community in commemoration of the United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day. Light It Up Blue is a unique global initiative that kicks-off Autism Awareness Month and helps raise awareness about autism. In honor of this historic day, many iconic landmarks, hotels, sporting venues, concert halls, museums, bridges and retail stores are among the hundreds of thousands of homes and communities that take part to Light It Up Blue.
Throughout the month of April, lend additional support and get involved by:
- Light a building blue – Change your white bulbs to blue. Light up your home, business, school, place of worship or even your Web site blue to show your support.
- Host a blue event – From blue-themed bake sales to blue cocktail parties and galas, be sure to register your participation and fundraising activity at www.autismspeaks.org/LIUB.
- Make a donation – Help raise funds and click to donate at www.autismspeaks.org/LIUB or text AUTISM to 25383 to give $10.
- Light up someone’s day – The smallest act can go a long way in brightening up the day for an individual with autism and his or her family. Tell about your acts of kindness and inspire the global autism community by posting on the World Autism Awareness Day Facebook page.
