The Hackensack Police Department is currently hosting its 14th annual Police Youth Academy for students in grades 8 through 12. For the first time, the program was open to include students of Hackensack’s sending districts of Maywood, Rochelle Park and South Hackensack. Instructors include Hackensack police officers and firefighters plus officers from the three sending municipalities.

The week-long academy was scheduled to coincide with the kids’ spring break from school, April 14 through April 18, and held at Nellie K. Parker School from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The five-day curriculum includes various presentations from guest law enforcement agencies, day trips, military drills, and physical training to show the participants the training involved in becoming an emergency responder.

Upon completion of the five-day academy, the Hackensack Police Department will host a graduation ceremony on Friday at 6 p.m. at Parker School.
